The school “is a haven for pupils who attend” – Our latest report from school inspection body Ofsted shows vast improvements as we climb from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ features.
Highlights from the report include:
- “Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe is a haven for pupils who attend. Pupils and staff are rightly proud of their school.”
- “The academy is a calm, safe and harmonious place where pupils thrive.”
- “The early years curriculum is sharply focused on developing pupils’ vocabulary and communication skills.”
- “Leaders have made sure that reading is high priority.”
- “Leaders provide a wide range of rich cultural experiences for pupils.”
Within the report, Ofsted praised the school’s personal development, saying; “Leader’s place pupils’ personal development at the heart of the school. Pupils are taught about equality and British values such as respect and tolerance of people of other faiths and backgrounds. As a result, pupils value people’s differences. Pupils in Year 6 spoke passionately about how wrong it was that some England football players were racially abused for missing a penalty during Euro 2020. Leaders have ensured that pupils are equipped with the knowledge that they need to manage the risks they might face online and in the community.
Katie McGuire, Principal at Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe, commented on the glowing report saying; “The whole of the Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe community are delighted with Ofsted’s ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features judgement. It is external confirmation of what all at the school have known for a while now, that together we are making rapid progress and creating a great school that our pupils so richly deserve.”
“I am so grateful to the staff, pupils and parents who have supported us over the years. Their support and dedication, and willingness to embrace change, are the foundations for the improvements we have achieved.”
Ofsted was impressed by the quality of relationships between staff and pupils stating that “positive and nurturing relationships between staff and pupils help pupils feel safe and foster positive attitudes to learning. Staff provide effective support, whether academic or pastoral, to help pupils make the most of the education on offer to them.”
Emma Merva, Regional Director for North East Primaries at Oasis Community Learning commented saying; “This is a fantastic report from Ofsted and is everything that Katie and her team deserve after the excellent progress they have made.”
“The academy is on a journey of swift and sustainable improvement, and I am confident that the plans that Katie has in place means that the progress levels will continue to climb. The wider Oasis family of academies is extremely proud of what Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe has achieved.”
Inspectors continued to applaud the academy and said the following around early years curriculum; “The early years curriculum is sharply focused on developing pupils’ vocabulary and communication skills. This helps pupils get off to a strong start. Many children start at the school with additional speech and language needs. Staff in the early years identify any pupils who might need help with speech and language. The special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) works with staff to devise support plans so that staff know how to help these pupils.”
Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe has been graded ‘Good’ in the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management, and early years provision, and was graded ‘Outstanding’ in personal development.
