Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

PE

Intent

Nunsthorpe is situated in a socially deprived area.  Children in this area have less opportunities and sporting clubs available to them. Therefore, PE is essential to empower children to be physically and emotionally healthy helping them to break cycles and improve their futures giving every child, every chance.

Our PE provision is split into three key areas. Firstly, our behaviour system and school ethos provide children with the key skills of sportsmanship. These qualities are embedded in our PE provision and also all areas of the curriculum. Qualities include; self-control, collaboration, patience and equality.

Secondly, Physical Education provides children with specific skills so they are able to excel in a broad range of sporting activities such as netball, dance, gymnastics and badminton. Key skills are developed year on year. Our curriculum gives opportunities to become physically confident and builds understanding of what they need to do to become physically healthy people.

Our PE provision gives children the opportunity to take what they have learnt, practise and compete with other schools and clubs. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed positive values.
